Bruker ASC  has designed, manufactured and installed several high performance UHV compatible X-ray mirror systems. Our standard mirror positioner can provide up to 5 fully motorized degrees of freedom: mirror pitch, roll and yaw, vertical and lateral translation.

The mirror supporting mechanics rests on a massive granite block directly fixed to the floor and is decoupled from the vacuum chamber by means of edge-welded bellows. The vacuum vessel is supported by an independent welded metallic structure directly connected to the experimental hall floor.

Vertical translations and the two associated rotations are performed by means of stages positioned in air, on the sides of the granite block. Horizontal translations and the associated rotation around a vertical axis are performed by means of two translation stages placed either in-vacuum or underneath the granite block. Both vertical (e.g.: VFM) and horizontal (e.g.: HFM) deflections can be easily implemented.
 
Water-cooling of the mirror substrates is possible by means of either copper plates clamped on the sides of the mirror substrate or of cooling fins immersed in grooves filled with eutectic alloy. A water-cooled Cu mask protects the upstream edge of mirrors exposed to white beam. Several different bending mechanisms, including adaptive bimorph mirrors, can be implemented depending on customer´s specific needs. BASC can also offer extensive know-how and support in ray-tracing (including real, measured slope errors), mirror design and optimisation.
