Mechanical Engineer

(Office in Fremont, CA, USA)

 

BEST is building its R&D team in our Fremont, CA office.  We are seeking a dynamic Mechanical Engineer who will be part of the product development and engineering team developing new devices for energy and electric power applications.  


The Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Perform various engineering design, analysis, and project management tasks as needed to achieve technical objectives
  •  Detailed mechanical design of low volume prototypes and test rigs.  Research product needs and prepare technical specifications
  • Perform analytical and numerical simulations (FEM) of components and devices, in the areas of structural mechanics, dynamics, and thermodynamics
  • Prepare and update 3D models, 2D drawings, and specifications of the iSFCL device, layouts, assemblies and components
  • Research and assist with third-party vendors to identify their unique capabilities to select and supply off-the-shelf and/or customized mechanical and electro-mechanical components
  • Assist in the fabrication of components and assemblies for the iSFCL device
  • Assist with test system design, integration and procedure writing
  • Draft, illustrate and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and engineering reports
  • Support engineering team on various other tasks as needed.

 
The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor degree (Master of Science preferred) in Mechanical Engineering or related fields and five-year experience in engineering with an emphasis in mechanical design, structural mechanics, heat transfer or fluid flow as well as having expert level experience in mechanical design applied to electrical and electro-mechanical equipment.

 

The ideal candidate will also possess a solid analytical background with experience developing complex products and tools that operate with high voltage and at high power, such as inductive shielded-core fault current limiters (iSFCL), superconducting coils and magnets, reactors, and transformers.  The idea candidate will have a strong understanding and knowledge of mechanical and electro-mechanical engineering needs related to product design and development.  The position requires a mix of engineering and hands-on skills with strength in mechanical design, analytical/numerical modeling, prototyping and testing.  The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and/or fluid flow.  Additional experience in the areas of cooling technologies, sensor instrumentation technologies and controls is considered a plus.

 

Additional qualifications include: 

  • Good working experience in the use of analytical and numerical tools, such as Finite Element Methods, in the areas of solid mechanics, dynamics, and heat transfer
  • Experience in the preparation and management of detailed manufacturing drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of Dimensioning and Tolerances for Engineering Drawings and related documentation practices (ASME Y14.5-2009)
  • Detailed working knowledge of SolidWorks 3D modeling, 2D drawing, and Product Data Management (PDM) 
  • Hands on skills in mechanical assembly, disassembly, troubleshooting of complex systems
  • Excellent writing and communications skills

       
The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience with high-power and high-voltage equipment, or other electrochemical technologies is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience with vacuum and cryogenic technologies
  • Numerical and analytical modeling (ANSYS preferred, ANSYS CFX)
  • Hands-on experience with sensor instrumentation and data acquisition systems
  • Matlab, Labview proficient

Manager of External Reporting

SUMMARY:


This position will be involved in corporate accounting and finance activities which will require significant interaction with the division financial management teams and the corporate accounting team, including providing technical accounting guidance regarding complex accounting transactions, performing research on new accounting issues, assisting with quarterly closes by reviewing results submitted from the various locations, assisting with the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts and drafting SEC reports, including preparation of Form 10-Q’s and Form 10-K’s, as well as footnote disclosures.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Preparation of Form 8-K’s, proxy statements, 10-Q’s, 10-K’s, including footnote disclosures.

Involved in audits and will work closely with external auditors.

Drive the enhancement (and maintenance) of the Company’s finance and accounting policies and procedures.

Drive the implementation of new accounting standards as they are released.

Research and evaluate complex accounting transactions to determine proper accounting treatment. 

Provide guidance and/or training to subsidiary controllers and staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:


Education and/or Experience:                                              
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Finance-related major (e.g. Accounting, Finance) or equivalent experience required;

Seven (7) to ten (10) years direct experience in corporate finance and accounting. Accounting/Audit experience with Big Four preferable;

SEC reporting experience required.

Computer Skills:                                            
Strong knowledge of MS Office products.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
CPA preferred.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and details effectively with the ability to  manage non-negotiable timelines.
• Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of individuals, both inside and outside the company, in a professional manner, demonstrating effective verbal/written communication skills.
• Strong work ethic, organizational and problem solving skills.

 

Other Qualifications:   

                                  
Proficient knowledge of US-GAAP and SEC rules.

Able to produce sound financial plans and objectives for the business and communicate those objectives.

Broad, general understanding of all aspects of finance and accounting, including audit, cost accounting/inventory, credit and collections, general ledger, financial planning, and treasury.

Knowledge of SOX 404 a plus.

Willingness and ability to travel, as some travel is required.
